I’m a relative newcomer to Sydney with years of experience working with children. During the week I work as a Production Manager at a publishing company and on the weekends I get to have fun dressing up and making young people smile. I have worked as a circus teacher in Brisbane for the past 10 years and before that I was a performer in a youth circus. I have a drama degree and absolutely love performing and working with children.
I love seeing the kids’ faces light up when their favourite characters are brought to life. It’s a pretty great opportunity to have a job that allows you to make people happy. I’m also a big kid so playing around is pretty fun for me too.
My favourite character is Mulan because she is a strong and independent young woman. She starts out not really knowing herself but still goes out into the world and has adventures on her own (even though sometimes she’s a bit scared and out of her depth). I think she is an excellent role model for you women.
I used to love having birthday parties in my backyard. My mum and dad would make a cake from the Women’s Weekly Cook Book (maybe in the shape of a butterfly or koala) and we would run around the backyard through the sprinkler. My favourite memories were just having fun with all of my friends.
I love how many different things I get to do. Who would have thought that I’d be able to dress up as Queen Elsa at one party, a superhero at another and then do some balloon twisting in the afternoon. It makes life very interesting!
