All About Space!

Being an astronaut is a specialised occupation that requires intelligence, physical fitness and intensive training. It’s also a very solitary job and astronauts can often spend months on a space station without returning to earth. While they’re in orbit, they conduct all sorts of research on the stars and the planets as well as what effects the lack of gravity can have on plant growth and the human body. They also study earth too and have discovered all sorts of fascinating facts about our planet that were previously unknown. So far there have been almost six hundred astronauts from countries all over the world with just over ten percent of those being women.

Our Astronaut Entertainer

Our astronaut entertainer looks as if he’s come straight from NASA. His spacesuit, or extravehicular mobility unit to give it the correct name, is pristine white with silver banding and with all the appropriate flags attached. We’ve made one adjustment to his helmet though which means he doesn’t need to communicate through a microphone as a real astronaut would. For us, the most important part of our astronaut entertainer’s job when he’s providing astronaut entertainment is talking and interacting with the kids not chatting to us in the mission control centre.

The party starts with those well-known words – Houston, we have lift off – and doesn’t stop until the kids run out of rocket fuel.
