A 1st birthday party should ideally only go for a couple of hours, at most 1 to 2 hours. After all, one year olds are going to get tired and overwhelmed – you’ve probably got a sleep schedule to stick to!
Plan the birthday party at a time where your child is well rested, recently fed, and their normal schedule is kept on track. Typically, the best time for a 1st birthday party is late morning, 10am to 12pm, or early afternoon, 2pm to 4pm.
In terms of how many guests you should invite to your baby’s first birthday – it depends on how big your family and friend group is, what your budget can cater for, and the size of your venue.
Generally, 20 is a good number to keep the chaos, budget, and overwhelm low. Start your invite list off with the people that you must invite, including parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or baby friends from play groups or daycare, and go from there.
